4 European destinations to pop the question in 2024
So, you’ve finally acquired the ring and are now thinking of ways in which you can propose to your significant other. Nothing says ‘I love you’ more than a brisk trip away to a romantic location, and Europe sure has many.
With a destination proposal, you can keep it simple and let the location and diamond engagement ring do the talking. To give you some ideas, we’ve collated four European destinations to pop the question in 2024.
Galešnjak Island, Croatia
What better place to demonstrate your love and commitment than an island in the shape of a heart? Galešnjak, also called Lovers’ Island, emerges from the pristine waters of the Adriatic. And don’t worry, the shape never ceases to change regardless of whether it’s high or low tide.
Located south of Zadar, Galešnjak is a mere 43 square miles but is surrounded by both beautiful coves and charming pebble beaches. It’s private property and so can only be visited with a permit or private tour but the trip is well worth it to discover the hidden beauty of the archipelago.
Charles Bridge, Prague
An up-and-coming engagement destination is Prague, the Capital of Czechia. There are plenty of backdrops in Prague to pop the question, from the classic Czech architecture of Prague Castle to the superbly graffitied Lennon Wall.
However, the scene that tops them all is that of the Charles Bridge. The 14th-century bridge is an iconic symbol of the city and its blend of warm lighting, musicians, and street artists make it an incredibly romantic spot for a proposal. You can even head off on a dinner cruise afterwards.
Edinburgh, Scotland
A city known for its Georgian architecture and extensive history; Edinburgh creates a romantic ambience like no other. It’s also a great choice if you’d rather stay a little closer to home and save for your future nuptials (fingers crossed!).
Probably the most popular backdrop for proposals in Edinburgh is the castle. The Half-Moon Battery offers splendid views over the city alongside some iconic historical elements. It can become busy here during weekends and summer holidays, so make sure to time your trip correctly. What’s even better is you can get married in the Royal Chapel should you wish to.
If you’re a couple who lives an active lifestyle, why not head out on a hike to Arthur’s Seat? The 1-2 hour trek leads to a stunning panoramic view of Edinburgh. It’s not known for being a proposal spot, which is ideal if you’re looking to do something a little unconventional.
St. Nicholas’s Church, Ljubljana
First things first, Ljubljana is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the whole of Europe – its name even loosely translates to ‘beloved’. Slovenia’s capital is full of colourful streets and numerous bridges, which connect the two halves of the city separated by the river.
Stroll hand-in-hand along the riverfront as you take your significant other to the main attractions in the city. Stop for a bite to eat before heading to St. Nicholas’s Church. Kneel down on the floor and propose to your loved one in the stunning Baroque cathedral.
