How to Add That Personalised Touch to Your Wedding

A wedding is an intensely personal occasion. You’ll want your big day to reflect your tastes and values. But exactly how can you do that? Let’s take a look at a few of the touches through which you can express who you are!
Placecards
While it might seem like a strange place to start, the place cards on the tables at your wedding breakfast are actually extremely easy to personalise. The names of the tables might draw inspiration from your family history, or your favourite works of fiction (tables named after factions in Star Trek or figures in the Harry Potter world are a popular choice).
If you have card making supplies to hand, you can even set aside an evening and get the placecards made yourself. It doesn’t get much more personal than that!
A photo album
If you have a wedding photo album, then you can make it a personal one by tracking down all of your guests and having them write a personal message inside it. Many couples today decide to get married several weeks, or even months, before the reception: this will give you a chance to get the photos done so that everyone can sign their name.
Take the music seriously
If you’re a fan of a particular kind of music, then it might be a good idea to hire a band or a DJ that reflects it. While everyone will probably want to hear staples like ‘Mr Brightside’, the chances are that they might like to hear them in a more unusual style. A soul band, a bluegrass three-piece, or an 80s-inspired DJ set might all appeal in various ways. If you see a local band you like, then think about hiring them, even if the format is unusual.
Be nonstandard
All of your guests will have expectations for how the day will unfold. After all, we all go to dozens of weddings throughout our lives. By varying the formula slightly, you can violate those expectations, and thereby personalise the day. If you’re not a fan of fancy food, for example, then you might forgo the sit-down meal in favour of a street-food style caterer.
Special events like the cutting of the cake, the first dance, and the throwing of confetti can all be rejigged (or even improved) to reflect the personality of the couple. Be imaginative, and don’t be afraid to be bold. While there’s a lot to be said for tradition, it’s also worth making your wedding distinctive and fun!
