Vintage Inspired Wedding

From the bride: Vintage inspired would be an understatement when describing our wedding. After 10 months of planning, researching, crafting, painting, designing, DIYing, and antique shopping, we were beginning to think that we had went overboard with the vintage style.

My dress was an ivory, lace v-neckline gown by Allure Bridal. Beaded lace adorned the entire fitted silhouette. A dramatic v-shaped back and covered buttons complete the stunning vintage style. A handmade birdcage veil with a feather hair fascinator and a vintage, white Fox stole complemented my gown. I carried a hand-tied bouquet of orange roses, tulips, mini calas, hypericum berry, and succulent with braided ivory and turquoise ribbon accented with a vintage orange and turquoise brooch. The groom wore a grey, vintage styled suit with a handmade, orange and turquoise bowtie. His boutonniere consisted of three orange roses accented with peacock feathers.

Our wedding cermeony took place in early October at The Cliffs Resort on Possum Kingdom Lake. The vintage wooden arch was draped with burlap and covered in flowers that complemented my bridal bouquet. The programs were vintage fan replicas and were displayed in an antique suitcase at the entrance of the ceremony site. The location was filled with handmade, wooden signs to inform the guests of the ceremony and reception locations.

The Maid of Honor and bridesmaids wore unique styled and colored cocktail-length gowns of satin with vintage fur stoles. Each carried a hand-tied bouquet of orange roses, mini calas, hypericum berry, succulent with ivory ribbon accented with unique, vintage brooches to compliment their dresses. The groomsman wore grey slacks and vests with unique, handmade ties complementing the bridesmaid dresses. The ring barer wore a handmade, vintage newsboy suit with nickers, a vest, and a hat. His bowtie matched the groom’s bowtie. The ring barer walked down the aisle just before the bride carrying a Here Comes The Bride wooded, heart shaped sign and a ring pillow made by my great aunt. The ushers wore grey slacks and handmade, orange plaid suspenders.

The reception was held immediately following the ceremony at the Cliffs event center, steps away from the ceremony location. The event center was decorated from floor to ceiling in Victorian-style vintage decorations that we made, crafted, designed, borrowed, or bought. Old screen doors, antique suitcases, vintage clothing, an old-fashioned bicycle, and mid-century furniture pieces adorned the room. Black and white photos of our parents and grandparents were displayed throughout the center.

The guest tables featured burlap tablecloths with lace table squares and vintage birdcage centerpieces with fresh wax flowers of yellow, white, orange and turquoise. Each had a lace and burlap decorated Mason jar tea glass that we spent many long hours crafting. Burnt orange polyester napkins and loose pearls in white, gold, and turquoise accented the tables. Homemade peach, apricot, and plum jelly served as wedding favors and finished the table settings for the guests. Our cake table theme was “Love Birds” and included a robin’s egg blue vintage door backdrop that we designed and painted. The cake was a cream-colored fondant cake with a tree design in brown and gold. The cake knife we used on the table was the cake knife used at my parents wedding in 1976 and had both my parent’s names and our names and wedding dates engraved. The grooms table was decorated with vintage car replicas and included a German chocolate cake, several flavors of homemade cookies and cupcakes, homemade fudge, and hand dripped pearl pretzels.

Our get-a-way car was a vintage yellow 1927 Model-A.
