Oscar-winning celebrities’ weddings

The latest Oscar-winning actress to tie-the-knot was Jennifer Lawrence this past Saturday. The celebrity wedding took place in Rhode Island in the US at the Belcourt of Newport mansion. The mansion is full of character and surrounded by greenery. Just some of the notable celebs in attendance were world-famous singer Adele, fellow Oscar leading-actress-winner Emma Stone, and TV personality Kris Jenner. Lawrence is said to have worn a Dior dress, which is one of her favoured designers and one which she has been the face of in campaigns.

Jennifer Lawrence won the Oscar for Best leading actress for Silver Linings Playbook in 2012.

While many celebrities’ weddings take place in the US, other favourable destinations include Hawaii, Costa Rica in the Caribbean, Los Cabos in Mexico, and, in Europe, The Amalfi Coast in Italy, Sintra in Portugal, or the Loire Valley in France. Read on to find out where these Oscar-winning actors/actresses chose to host their weddings.

Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon took away a Best Actress Oscar for her accomplished role in Walk the Line in 2005. Six years later, she wed Jim Toth. The wedding that took place in March of 2011 was set on the star’s own Californian ranch. The successful actress stunned guests with her Chantilly lace corset bodice. On-screen celebrities at the event included Matthew McConaughey, Sacha Baron Cohen, Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

Natalie Portman

Another self-hosted Californian wedding was Natalie Portman’s, who took French dancer Benjamin Millepied’s hand in marriage. The couple wed under a Jewish chuppah canopy in the sunset glow, overlooking the sea in Big Sur. Celebs that joined the happy couple for the clifftop event included Ivanka Trump and even the vintage Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin. Portman’s white dress was said to have been designed by Rodarte and featured floral needlework on the shoulders.

The established actress won an Oscar in 2011 for the lead female role in Black Swan, where she played a challenged ballerina.

Nicole Kidman

This hugely-popular movie star got married for the second time in 2006 to Keith Urban. After a famously-failed marriage to Tom Cruise, she exchanged the Top Gun megastar for the fellow countryman, singer, songwriter, and later American Idol judge. Dubbed Australia’s royal wedding by UK press, onlookers admired the cream-coloured Rolls-Royce, which took Kidman to the gate of the gothic-style Cardinal Cerretti Chapel in Manly, Sydney. She exchanged the red carpet for the aisle, which she walked down in an elegant ivory gown designed by Nicolas Ghesquiere.

Many people’s film goddess, Kidman, grabbed an Oscar in 2002 for her tantalising role in The Hours

Matthew McConaughey

In 2012, lead actor winner Matthew McConaughey married Camila Alves in Austin, Texas. The intimate ceremony took place at sunset with McConaughey suited up in a black 3-piece tuxedo by designer Dolce & Gabbana.

The casual event took place on the grounds of the pair’s 7-bedroom mansion. Luxury marquees fitted with comfy rugs—and even air-conditioning—offered an inviting option for guests to stay over after the celebrations.

A monk and local priest lead the ceremony, with onlookers such as McConaughey’s friend, Reese Witherspoon, in attendance.

McConaughey scooped the Best Actor Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club in 2014.

Eddie Redmayne

Star Eddie Redmayne married his sweetheart Hannah Bagshawe in a winter-themed affair in December 2014. The famed actor chose the listed Babington country manor house in Somerset County, England to celebrate the wedding. The close-knit occasion took place under candlelight in a private members area of the historic house. Babington House is not new to celeb weddings. Music artist Fat Boy Slim and Zoe Ball also chose the venue for their wedding in 1999, and Millie Mackintosh, famous for appearances on Made in Chelsea, tied the knot there with rapper Professor Green in 2013.

The year after his wedding Redmayne was awarded an Oscar for his depiction of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything
